Kali is a girl after my own heart. I grew up in a home with two big brothers and a dad who always told me I could do anything the boys did. I thought all girls went hunting with their dad, hung out in the garage, and got their hands dirty. Kali is not only beautiful, she hunts big game and loves it. While it’s been entirely too long since I’ve shot my .270 Winchester lever action (a beautiful rifle…swoon), Kali has inspired me to brush the cobwebs off and get back out there. Maybe I’ll be ready next elk season 🙂
It was a perfect blue bird afternoon in Aspen for Kali and Jonathan’s engagement session. The town was alive with shoppers and skiers. The blue sky and gorgeous sunlight felt amazing as we walked around the town of Aspen (after a stop at the Aspen Brewery, of course). Before the sun set completely, we hopped in our cars and drove just out of town to find a few shots among the aspen trees. Then, we discovered an untouched field of snow. We laced up our Sorels and hiked into the field… And absolutely froze ourselves! The three feet of snow, plus the setting sun, must have dropped our core temperature a few degrees. I rarely drive with the heat blasting – but it took me a good 40 minutes to thaw out. The cold, frozen legs and fingers were totally worth it… and we’d happily do it all over to capture these two Texans knee deep in snow in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
