Turtle Bay Resort Wedding Photography | Lacey + Nick

Jason’s Take:

I arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii at 2:30 on Monday afternoon with Julie Gambrell (fantastic wedding designer – Classic Creations). Honestly, all I wanted was Chipotle. I quickly discovered that the nearest Chipotle was an ocean away. After a few deep, calming, breaths of warm Pacific air, I settled on the fact that it is ‘okay’ that there’s not my perfect restaurant in Hawaii. Rather, on the North Shore, there were these little trucks (or permanently placed school busses) with the world’s best fresh shrimp plates. I couldn’t believe how satisfying a plate of shrimp could be, served out of the back of a bus, after a surfing lesson.

On another note… During the surfing lesson, while I was paddling back out to the breakers,  I spotted a monk seal right next to me and my board. Surreal to say the least! When I told Gina about the seal spotting (instead of being excited) she gasped, paused, and said, “You know… sharks love seals.” Gina may not have entered the water. Period. She has a fierce fear of sharks (yet watches every episode of Shark Week). The last picture of this post is of a monk seal that came up onto the beach during the trash the dress session. I’m pretty sure Gina would have locked herself in the car right about then.

Lacey and Nick were the most gracious couple I think I’ve ever met. When Gina and I travel for weddings, we give our time to the couple. Whatever they want/need – we’re committed to it. During this solo trip, Lacey and Nick continually checked in to make sure I was having a wonderful time and made sure that I took all the time in the world to explore the North Shore.

Thank you – Lacy and Nick. I had a wonderful experience in Hawaii – and have even fonder memories of our times together on the beach, documenting the beginning of your new chapter in life.

Thank you – Julie Gambrell (Classic Creations). We share some really fun experiences spotting turtles, exploring shrimp stands, surfing, walking in volcanic craters, and of course Skyping home to our families while driving on the North Shore highway.

Gina’s Take:

Sharks terrify me. :-)

Downtown Denver Engagement Photography: Tori + Matt

denver-city-park-engagement-photos

Denver engaged couple, Tori & Matt are getting married in Cancun, Mexico this summer. Jason and I (Gina) are thrilled to be the photographers for their destination wedding. A couple of weeks ago, Jason, Tori and Matt hung out at The Wyncoop and then took advantage of the warm, rain-less Denver afternoon. The wind was gusty at times making for some great photographs and also wreaking havoc on Tori’s hair. In situations like this if we can’t get out of the wind, we take pictures in bursts to find that one image where the hair is behaving (LOL). Tori and Matt were playful, engaging and totally relaxed during their engagement shoot. Pictures were taken all around the LoDo area before they headed to City Park for some fun pics. I just love the image (above) of Tori spreading the dandelion seeds!

We love having the opportunity to have an engagement photography shoot with a couple prior to their wedding day. Engagement shoots give us (as photographers) a chance to become more acquainted with our clients, their personalities and how they interact together. The photography shoot also gives our clients the ability to become more comfortable and familiar being photographed.

Cancun Destination Wedding Photography

Beautiful light, beautiful couple, beautiful surroundings… makes for great wedding photography!

Jason and I (Gina) were fortunate enough to escape the Colorado winter weather and travel to beautiful Cancun, Mexico for an amazing destination wedding. We love this couple and after a COLD engagement photography session in Denver and Genesee, we couldn’t wait for their February destination wedding.  Nicole picked the Ocean Coral and Turquesa Resort specifically because it matched her wedding colors (how cute is that). The vibrantly painted walls were a nice backdrop for photography.

Let me just say that if you want to be a completely relaxed bride, get married on the beach. Nicole was so mellow it made me want to cancel our Colorado wedding (less than 3 months away… yeah!) and fly to ANY warm destination and get married there. However, it wasn’t just the relaxing atmosphere that made this such an amazing event for photography, it was Nicole & Mike themselves! They are such a relaxed, happy couple that spending a few days photographing their wedding didn’t feel like work. They are so in love and so easy to love that it’s no wonder 70 guests made the trip down for their destination wedding. Such a testament of what a wonderful couple they are.

The ever-wonderful Julie of Classic Creations did a fantastic job orchestrating the wedding and even packed a suitcase full of linens to make sure Nicole & Mike got exactly what they wanted.

On a side note, somehow we managed to completely forget to pack sunscreen. In the shuffle between packing carry-ons and photography gear (and having to fill a travel size bottle – then – switching to checking a bag so it wouldn’t matter) the sunscreen stayed safely tucked away at home. Upon realizing our mistake, instead of buying a ridiculously priced bottle down there, we decided to be oh so brilliant and forgo any sun protection because, hey, we’re from Colorado and we can handle it. Well… we handled it so well the first day we thoroughly burned ourselves (well-cooked wedding photographers) and in the end bought the overpriced bottle. Lesson learned :)
