Engagement Photography on Blake Street | Stefanie + Jon

Gina’s Take:
Despite my dislike of overcast skies for weeks on end, a well-placed, umbrella-filled afternoon can be perfection. There is something uber romantic about a city, wet pavement, sloshing tires, and a sweet couple under an umbrella. I could be romanticizing this “city rain” because Jason asked me to marry him on a rainy New York City street and that, of course, was one of the best days, ever. However, I’m sticking to my conclusion: rain in the city = romantic (mind you, not a torrential downpour…). Stefanie and Jon’s engagement shoot had just enough rain to require an umbrella at times, and it was a blast shooting with a prop
I have to give Stefanie kudos because she is not a major fan of middle of the sidewalk, downtown PDA, but she plunged in and did it. Besides, her coy smile up at Jon was magic.
Jason’s Take:
Jon is a beer connoisseur. Therefore I’m a fan of Jon. I love spending time getting to know our clients. The more time we spend just chatting during the initial meeting and before or after an engagement shoot, the more we feel acquainted with who our couples are and what they’re all about.
Stefanie and Jon live in Ohio and are getting married at Arrowhead Golf Course (with the amazing Ann Marlin as their event designer) in August. They happened to be in town for some wedding planning on a rainy weekend. So, we asked Stephanie and Jon if they’d simply like to mosey around Blake Street for their engagement shoot. No specific locations, no specific agenda… just walk around, talk, and shoot from time to time. Perfect recipe. The rainy engagement shoot was refreshingly fun, simple, laid back and topped of with a good beer at Falling Rock Tap House (75+ beers on tap and 130 bottled beers).

Gina’s favorite image (below): I don’t know why I love this shot… it could be simply because of the umbrella, or because it’s black and white, or because I remember the feel of the rain at that moment. Oh well, compelling reason or not, they’re adorable and it’s my fav.
Jason’s favorite image (top of page): Love it. I love how they laugh together.

Gina’s Take:
Amanda and Jeremy feel totally natural and unpressured in front of the camera… their interactions with each other so unrefined, unscripted and free. I love the way Jeremy just loves her… the way he plays with her. You can tell they’ve known each other for a long time (quite a few years actually). They’re getting married at Mile High Station this August… I can’t wait to see the look on his face with the woman of his dreams walks down the aisle. A groom seeing his bride is one of my favorite moments on a wedding day. However, if I have to choose one moment that always stands out for me, it’s when a bride and her father are waiting to walk down the aisle. The emotion on a father’s face nearly makes me cry. You can see his internal whirlwind taking him back and forth between joy, pride, loss, honor. As their entrance draws near, every father steals a look at his daughter and it’s as if he’s thinking “this is the last moment she’ll be my little girl.” Then he smiles, tries not to cry, inhales deeply, and takes the first step down the aisle. Beautiful.
Jason’s Take:
We love where we live! Our house backs to Stanley Lake and over 30 miles of running trails. Heaven! Since moving to our new place last year, I have found a renewed love of running. For me, street running cannot compare to getting out on an empty trail and losing myself (figuratively, not literally). I explore the trails a few times a week, especially around the magic hour of sunset. Is there a more beautiful hour? I’m in awe as the sun sweeps over the tall grass and the winks through the giant aged trees.
Jeremy had been offered a job and was asked to move to Florida for said job in a matter of 6 days!! They asked if we could squeeze in an engagement shoot before he left. Since they live near us in Arvada, I asked if Stanley Lake would work for them. Yeppers! The met us at our house – the light was perfect – no time for a drink – we hit the trails. They rocked it! Perfect light, amazingly natural emotions.
