Jason and I are huge dog lovers. We have two pups of our own (a beagle and a lab mix). Both dogs are rescues; something we are passionate about. I follow many rescue organizations and am half tempted to add to our brood all the time. I also love reading about dog rescue stories from around the world. In fact, I just read a surprising book about one solider who rescued a stray dog in Afghanistan and his journey bringing the dog safely to the US. I’ve discovered many of our amazing soldiers are not only putting their lives on the line in war zones, but they’re also rescuing stray dogs from the streets (though this practice is not approved of by the military – boo). It’s incredible how much these puppies come to mean to the soldiers, providing joy and comfort in an otherwise bleak situation. It really brings meaning to the phrase “who rescued who”. All that to say, when Caroline and Todd introduced us to their pup, Bubbles, I was immediately in love. Who couldn’t instantly smile at a dog named Bubbles? She lived at their feet the entire wedding, happy to be near them. She even made a cameo during their first dance. It was absolutely adorable.
Todd is incredibly handy. He’s the type of person who looks at a mess and sees order. Caroline and Todd’s wedding actually took place on their property near the eastern plains. The barn, where the reception took place, was apparently packed floor to ceiling with everything imaginable, including an RV. When Brynn, their brilliant wedding planner, toured the property a few weeks prior to the wedding, she had doubts that the barn could be transformed into something beautiful (especially by a man – sorry guys, in general, we’re just not good at things like that). When Brynn arrived on the wedding day, she was astonished at the transformation. Todd had completely emptied the barn, created a floor, and even decorated the walls with perfectly aligned crates and carefully measured lights. He even hung a vintage chandelier from the ceiling.
I wish I was handy… but I’m not. In fact, right now, we have a list of projects around the house that I’d love to accomplish. The reality is that I will start off with the best of intentions… put it off for months… and, inevitably, hire out each project. I know my limitations, and I’d never make it in the handyman world!
A big thank you to Brynn, with Save the Date Events, for introducing us to Caroline and Todd and making an incredible wedding day for them!
