Ellen and Brian live in Washington D.C. because of Brian’s crazy National Security job. They booked us, like many of our out of state couples – sight unseen, and we are so glad they did! They were clear across the country so we only got to meet briefly over drinks a couple of months before their wedding weekend. Brian was literally in town for less than 24 hours and was almost unable to come out to meet because he was working around the clock doing top-secret work related to apprehension the shoe bomber (seriously!) In leu of an engagement photography session, Ellen and Brian had us cover their rehearsal dinner at Legacy Ridge Golf Course. It was a gorgeous Colorado night – family photography on the golf course was amazing (especially when the sprinklers came on) :-).
The ceremony site, St. Anne’s Church, was Ellen’s childhood church and school. Ellen and Brian were so cute during their ceremony! Since it was a traditional Catholic ceremony there were times they were seated side-by-side. Brian kept leaning over and whispering in Ellen’s ear making her grin… they couldn’t stop looking and smiling at each other. It reminded me of two kids trying to behave and sit still but were so excited they couldn’t stand it! During their formal photographs outside the church Ellen was reminiscing over school-day memories. Hearing her talk made me think about the fun times I (Gina) had in Elementary School. I remember making home-made ice cream and the can being too cold for me to touch, field days with orange popsicles, recorder club and handbell club (yes, I was that cool), and, in 6th grade, being unable to find the “time capsule” we had buried as 3rd graders. I know Ellen was excited to have Brian experience, and now be a part of her memories from St. Anne’s.
They gave themselves 3 hours between their traditional ceremony and the reception at the Westin Westminster to let loose and party in their limo with their wedding party! Awesome, right? We loved not having a tight timeframe for their portraits and got a chance to get some relaxed portraits around Old Town Arvada. The reception was an awesome party . As an added bonus to an already wonderful wedding, our drive home was only 15 minutes!!!! As Colorado wedding photographers with events in Vail, Estes Park, Keystone, Aspen, etc… we rarely get the luxury of a short drive.
Ellen and Brian – congrats! We totally dig you guys!
