As wedding photographers, we are submersed in a variety of cultures, family dynamics, traditions, etc. I never get tired of documenting (and experiencing) weddings because I never see the same thing twice! Stefanie’s mom is from the Indonesia and Stefanie incorporated some great Indonesian elements into her wedding day. She had her dress made with traditional Indonesian beading, her bridesmaids carried flower covered fans, and the entertainment consisted of beautiful Indonesian music and traditional dancing. I was enthralled with the dancing. It was so lovely and SO completely different! I think I took 200 pictures during a two-song performance (oops!). They even had family members fly from Indonesia to join them in celebration.
Getting a taste of this culture invigorates my desire to travel more. I’ve only been to Europe and Africa once respectively (Mexico resorts don’t really count) and neither time with Jason. He’s never been out of the country (except to Mexican resorts, and we already decided that doesn’t count). Going somewhere completely unknown to either of us and experiencing it for the first time together… that would be awesome.
Stefanie and Jon’s Arrowhead Golf Course wedding was truly beautiful. The incredible surroundings, the red rocks jetting from the earth, the amazing sky (note: the image above depicts the sky just as we saw it – not manipulation), and the blending of two cultures was amazing, of course, to photograph. But the one thing that really stood out to me was Stefanie’s dress. I love textures and patterns. Her custom dress included a blend of Indonesian beading (must have taken forever to create) and a tiered train (another favorite texture to photograph). I loved how the dress moved in the breeze. In some ways I feel like Rain Man – I really wanted to count how many beads had been hand sewn into the dress. I didn’t, not enough time…
Thank you Ann Marlin (Cloud 9 Bliss) for designing and delivering an amazing wedding day! Florals were brilliantly created (culturally infused) by A Design Resource. And of course, the wedding took place at the one and only Arrowhead Golf Course.
Be sure to also check out their engagement session on Blake Street in Denver.
